Both releases also offer brilliant visuals. The HD transfers are amazingly sharp from every camera distance and show rich colors and incredible details on faces and the lavish costumes. My only quibble is the over-exposed and blue-saturated swan groups in the lakeside scenes. Surely the much subtler lighting of the actual theatre experience could have been reproduced with more accuracy.

In the original version of Swan Lake, which premiered at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow in 1877, Odette is a swan-maiden whose evil stepmother is trying to kill her. Her only protection is a crown she was given by her grandfather. If Odette marries, the evil stepmother's plans will be thwarted. Prince Siegfried falls in love with Odette and vows to marry her but is tricked into infidelity by the demon Von Rothbart and his daughter Odile.
